Given this is an Ontario flyer I can see that at least 6 of the 12 items listed are Ontario grown all highlighted with a nice snazzy looking logo.

The time of year is right for Ontario production - hot house tomatoes, red or green sweet peppers, golden delicious or mac apples, squash and yellow, red or white mini potatoes and celery.

The questions I have is if what I see in the flyer will be reflected on the store shelf in sufficient quantity? And I say this cautiously - so many consumers have said to me...but the sign says (insert country here) but the (insert fruit or vegetable here) on the shelf says another country of origin. This isn't just a Sobeys problem.  It is common in a lot of stores.

And my second question: if you don't have Ontario grown produce is it better to support another Canadian province or a state that is closer?

What else is on ad: large black seedless grapes, pomegranates (a little early given this is just October but heck you get 5 bonus points), Compliments (Sobeys' private label) European, American or Italian blend salad; Compass almonds, Ontario Bartlett pears (read the smaller font andyou see that they have also included large size navel oranges, product of South Africa.

The flyer is pretty sharp given that it is published week in and week out.

It is even bound - that's a added expense.

We've all had those awkward moments when a roomful of people tries to ignore a less-than-fragrant blast from someone's nether regions.It's bad enough at work - but much worse on the bus or, heaven forbid, in a lift.Now help could be on the way, with the humble kiwifruit thought to hold the key to an embarrassing condition affecting hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders.

Up to one in five men and one in four women suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), with flatulence and constipation among common symptoms.The fruit contains an enzyme called zyactinase, and a small study has shown it could provide relief for IBS sufferers.

"People think of kiwifruit for constipation but it also seemed to be quite good for general irritable bowel," said gastroenterologist Dr Russell Walmsley, who worked on the research.Overseas studies have shown up to 24 per cent of women and 19 per cent of men in developed countries suffer from IBS.Walmsley said New Zealand statistics would be "in the same ballpark".

Stress is a common trigger and sufferers who have had more symptoms than usual could blame the recession.

Master's Touch which is easily found in the Montreal markets onceagain had their chef at the PMA Anaheim show. This time he waswhipping up anchovies, capers, onions, Italian spices, a bit of sourcream, white wine into a mouth watering tasteful dish.

I just love this old fashioned farmer's truck that greeted you as youwalked into the Whole Foods store. With the pumpkins cheerfullygreeting you and reminding you of autumn days quickly coming, I wasput into a harvest mood.

The produce department is gorgeous - plenty of demo stands (and someof the best tasting organic pineapples and melons I've had in ages),cheese merchandised in the produce area (and grapes merchandised inthe cheese section as my later wanderings showed me).

While attending the PMA in Anaheim 2009 I stopped by several stores tocheck out their produce departments. Bristol Farms, part of theSupervalu family, was founded in 1982. With 17 stores in Californiathey strive to offer the best to their shoppers.

I must say as I wandered about I was seduced by many of the displaysthroughout the store.
